It's definetly not a "Nightmare" to play this!

I got Rise of Nightmares last weekend and after a week of playing it I can say it is really enjoyable.

The turning & walking take some getting used to, especially when in Combat, as you need to mix it up a bit, and despite the odd flaw, it's a great showcase for the potential of Kinect.

Hopefully though, a lot of future Kinect games can do away with the 5 second hand gesture to register your choices. It sometimes feels like it's slowing the game down. but the gestures are brilliantly done (like pulling your hand down to pull down a lever).

It's a lot better than the reviews make out. It's not perfect, but deserves at least 7/10.

It's got it's flaws yes, but it's definetly a major showcase for Kinect's potential and a massive step forward for the Tech.

It can be a bit fiddly at times turning and walking, especially when you're going across a narrow gap or whatever, but it's brilliantly executed, and I love how you can turn your shoulders to look left and right, move your foot forward to walk forwards (move it just a little bit to walk, and further forward to move faster) and backwards to step back.
The hand gestures are brilliant too, like for example you swipe your hand sideways to slide open a Door, or hold your hand out to show the conductor your ticket, or flip your hand to flip the Gypsy's Tarot Cards over etc.

The combat is well executed too, with you holding your hands up in a boxers stance to ready yourself to attack, and swipe for melee weapons, hold your hands out for Chainsaws etc.
It's not scary, maybe a little jumpy, but it plays out like it could very well be Hostel the Videogame mixed in with Condemned 2.
Ignore the flaws & enjoy it for what it is, because it defeintly is a step forward in Kinect gaming and the little gestures etc are nice touches to a really enjoyable game.
As i've said, it's not perfect, but i'd definetly try it as i'm having so much fun, and am getting used to the different things you can do like swatting your arms around to get rid of insects etc

Looking forward to in 2011: Batman Arkham City, Fifa 12, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Sonic Generations, Kinect Sports Season Two & Dance Central 2

I will be writing up my review today or tomorrow. I have to say I'm not in 100% agreement with your assessment. Good to know you're enjoying it though!

I think that the game isn't a masterpiece and certainly has many flaws but it is still enjoyable to finally play a kinect game that has a story and isn't just an assortment of minigames. It also has some of the highest replay value of any kinect game since you have to beat it 3 times and there are many collectibles. I like the game and I think that Sega took a big chance and it is a big step forward in the right direction for the kinect technology. I hope to see many more games like this in the future but with the flaws fixed. The game can be very fun at times and I do not think that most reviewers have been giving this game a fair chance. I would say that this game is around a 7.

Re: It's definetly not a "Nightmare" to play this!

It is Resident Evil cheesy. I don't know how RE gets a pass while RoN gets criticized for it. I guess RE gets credit because it was cheesy first.

But the fighting is fun. It feels satisfying to slice off a baddy's head. Kind of like how I felt when I got my first squishy Gears headshot.

The movement.... er... sometimes I like it and sometimes I hate it. It would've been sooooo much better if they used head tracking rather than rotating the shoulders. But I do think it's neat to actually do things like doing a door gesture to open a door.

I read it's a 9 hour campaign. Ought to be fun to finish.
